The Government has confirmed the latest decision around school closures
‘The Education Minister has signed a further Ministerial Decision, based on the latest advice from the Medical Officer of Health, to extend the closure of the majority of Government-provided schools and colleges to 22 May, the start of the Summer half-term holiday.
This means that the earliest that schools and colleges could reopen is Monday, 1 June after the end of the Summer half-term break’.
We appreciate the challenges that this extension my make for our families and colleagues and we will continue to work towards supporting our children and school community as fully as possible.
There is a new Government-based website now set up for children and parents to access with some excellent resources and ideas available.
I would encourage all children and families to look at this and explore the resources available.
The Education Minister, Tracey Vallois, has said:
“I am delighted to launch the new Learning At Home online platform to support parents who will be worried about COVID-19, home learning, and the impact that this will have on their child’s development. Schools are doing everything they can to support students to learn at home.
“We need to support the incredible work that our schools are already doing to ensure students continue to receive the education they deserve and need. No-one expects parents to replace their child’s teacher. Our schools will continue to manage their students’ learning.”
The main aim of the new website is to provide parents and carers of primary and secondary school pupils with the necessary tools to support them with home learning.
This new online platform is aimed at students aged 3-19. There are simple guidelines to assist parents and carers with learning at home, and to support them in maintaining the safety and wellbeing of their family.
