Spring term 2017 curriculum
Children should still be in full Janvrin winter uniform on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Ties in Year 5 should not be elasticated. Coats should be brought to school every day. Please make sure all uniform is fully named.
In Year 5 children are expected to have a fully equipped pencil case including a blue ink pen (not Biro or gel pen.) They should also have a folder for transporting books, homework diary and papers. These can be sourced from town or purchased from Mrs Maguire for 50p.
It is important that you ensure that your son / daughter comes to school every Monday and Tuesday in their PE Kits (Tracksuit, trainers, black shorts & plain red t- shirt)
Reading: Children in Year 5 are expected to read at home on a daily basis for at least 30 minutes. Please listen to your child read and ask them questions about the text as this will improve their understanding.
Spelling: Children will be given a list of “spelling” words to learn each week. This list should then be practised using the ‘look, cover, write, check’ method. The children are tested weekly on their spellings.
Maths: There will be a great deal of emphasis placed on mental skills and the children need to practice their tables as these are tested regularly. Children should know all of their times tables to 12 X 12. They should also have fast recall of all number bonds.
Other: On occasions other tasks related to topic, English or science may be given.
Please see Homework Diary each week for expectations.
We will be attending the States Chamber on Monday 27th March to learn more about Jersey’s system of government and to debate an issue discussed in our English lessons. You will receive a letter about this trip – we would be very grateful for parent helpers. Many thanks to those parents who have already offered to help us on previous trips. We are VERY grateful – without you these trips would not happen!
This term we are studying Extreme Earth. If you have any resource that you feel would benefit our topics, or you would like to help in school, we would be most grateful.
